Isles claim LD Mike Rielly off waivers from Florida Panthers

CURRENT CAP SPACE  : $3,975,000 according to CapFriendly

My Take: Losing Pelech is a big loss, but New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello has some financial leverage and more importantly, more time to make a move to improve the organization with just around 4 million dollars to work with.  The question for me is how long is Pelech out for? If he comes back in (roughly) three weeks then the Islanders can just ride this wave, give more responsibility to the Samuel Bolduc-Grant Hutton defensive pair and when he can return, either send Rielly back into the waiver wire or…..

If Pelech is indeed out for longer than three weeks (say 4-6), the Isles have enough cap space to make a move to not only keep Reilly, but also make a bigger splash and acquire an offensive forward who can play along side Mat Barzal and Bo Horvat. From two weeks ago:

Isles Talk had learned that the New York Islanders could be making a deal around this time, no matter what the team’s record currently stands at.

Now That the Islanders have passed the twenty-game mark with more cap space than expected to improve the organization right now, the Islanders should look at more options to improve an offense that is lacking in finishers, while being cap compliant after Adam Pelech returns.
