Idle Thoughts

Sunday morning (very early), I was a happy camper.  The Isles came off their best effort of the season against the Devils.  Despite the fact that they played the night before, the Devils were the top team in the Eastern Conference.  They were strong in all aspects of their game, and in many instances, were not the 1-3-1 trapping team that most opponents know and hate. The effort that the…

Power Shortage Nips Isles Again

Zero for Fourteen. If you are a penalty killer, that is a good number.  However, when on the power play, not so much. The last 120 minutes of hockey that the Islanders have played in Uniondale have provided nothing on the board, when it comes to the extra man situation.  Despite having sixteen shots during that time, nothing was able to get by the wall known as Marc-Andre Fleury.

Did Isles Awaken Sleeping Giant?

Last Tuesday’s matchup in Pittsburgh showed the near perfect hockey game for Islander nation.  Offense clicking, defense almost stalwart, special teams rocking.  Just what you wanted. However, was this a wake-up call for the Pens? Just like the Bud light commercial of days gone by, the Isles may have awoken a sleeping giant. The question is, will that giant come back for revenge?

Boyes the Hero as Isles in First Place

For a die-hard Islander fan, the last two words in the title of the article have not be a much used phrase in our vocabulary. But it has a nice distinctive ring, don’t you think? Three power play goals, including a Brad Boyes marker, two minutes into overtime, gave the Islanders (4-2-1) a 5-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils, and have not gained a share of first place in…

McDonald Out for Two

Colin McDonald was give a two game suspension by the NHL for his hit on Ben Lovejoy last night in the game at Pittsburgh. A video link to the hit can be seen by clicking here: No surprise to me.  He (McDonald) had every chance to slow down, and be able to tone down the play.   Although Lovejoy was uninjured and skated away on his own power, it was still a…

60 Minute Men Spank Pens

In 1951, the Dominos came out with the song, “Sixty Minute Man”.  It was a major hit on the Pop Charts at the time.  Who would have known that this song, would have made such an impact on the New York Islanders last night. In fact, every player on that ice wearing white was playing the part to a “T”; as the Isles played a solid of a game as…

Islanders 7 Maple Leafs 4 – And We’re Off (To Boston)

Before we break down some of the plus and minus’ of tonight’s Islanders 7-4 win over the Leafs; be honest, you were a little bit nervous there when John Tavares went into the boards headfirst thanks to Dion Phaneuf. Is it me, or did JT have some snot in the general area of his nose when the cameras went to the bench following Dion’s hit? Thought so. He looked OK…
