Isles Have Chance To Improve Record; Thoughts On Hickey

October 28, 2015

The New York Islanders defeated the Calgary Flames Monday night by a score of 4-0. This was the one game this week that had me a bit worried because the Flames could come out at any time and beat you. With that said, the Islanders improved their record to 6-2-1 with games against Carolina tomorrow and the Devils on Halloween. To go another step further, they play the Sabres and…

Blog: Islanders Penalty Kill Improves; Thoughts On Jagr

February 26, 2015

When I was looking at the trade deadline yesterday and what Islanders players could be available to add to a third round pick, I looked at what the Isles might need and who might be available. The only issue I looked at was the penalty killing unit. Now when I think of the Isles PK, I think of three players: Frans Nielsen, Nikolay Kulemin, and Michael Grabner. Nielsen and Kulemin…

Isles Got 21 – Defeat Devs in Shootout

December 16, 2014

This was a testament to the level of character and a testament to the intestinal fortitude of this hockey club. This was a game that the Islanders should have LOST. No doubt about it – last year’s team would have suffered a defeat, and the fans like us would be screaming bloody murder. Not this time.  The Isles salvaged another one.  Hey – but a W is a W. JT…

Audio – Isles beat Devils 3-1 Go to 17-7

November 29, 2014

What a game tonight.  The Devils gave everything they had tonight, but Jaro Halak was outstanding.  The defense defended a 5 on 3 to end the game, and were the difference as the Isles win 3-1. Halak won his 9th straight and the team went 5-1 on a 6 game in 9 day stretch. The team will get a well deserved day off before preparing for the Sens on Tuesday….

Isles Talk Audio Blog – 11/29/2014

November 29, 2014

It is Saturday night…. The Isles take on the NJ Devils after a tough 5-2 loss to Washington last night.  To be fair, I expected a letdown last night, and hopefully that will be that. They will face a Devil team that is missing two important cogs in Henrique and Zajac.  Lubo Visnovsky and Johnny Boychuk will be out tonight, and Matt Donovan re-enters the lineup tonight. Here is my…

Isles Talk Eastern Conference Preview

October 8, 2014

#488019167 / gettyimages.com The final preseason write up is here as Isles Talk concludes with the Eastern Conference preview. As I did last year, I do things a little different. I will categorize teams into certain groups and make a quick analysis on each team. I have to admit, this one was tough to predict because it is wide open this year. Having said that, here are the teams in…

October 2, 2014

#183172653 / gettyimages.com What looks like to be a lopsided lineup tonight, the New York Islanders will head to Newark and square off against the New Jersey Devils. According to Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post here are the line ups for the Islanders: #Isles projected D pairs: Hickey-Hamomic; Reinhart-Strait; Ness-Mayfield. Again, Halak in nets, Poulin backing up. — Brett Cyrgalis (@BrettCyrgalis) October 2, 2014 #Isles projected lines (w/…

Hello Brooklyn!

September 27, 2014

The Islanders were at the Barclays Center yesterday for their exhibition game against the New Jersey Devils. Isles Talk was there as I came in from Pennsylvania to see the game and take in the Barclays experience. I go to at least 7-10 Islanders games a year while visiting the Prudential Center on occasion. I usually take the Tappan Zee Bridge and eventually get to the Throgs Neck and Long Island,…
