Poulin, Carkner Resign; Isles Have Interest In Zidlicky

August 12, 2015

According to Newsday: the New York Islanders have resigned RFA goalie Kevin Poulin. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers have also signed defenseman Matt Carkner to a two year AHL deal. My take: Poulin was going to play this year, but to have Stephon Williams backing him up and competing will be very interesting to see. Both goalies should be able to hold their own in this League and it appears the…

Year in Review. Thoughts from behind the Stove

Well it really didn’t go as planned.  I expected to write at least one entry a week.  I mean its only writing. Well life got in the way and that didn’t happen.  I also expected to have a much more positive spin on things in Isles land. Well, that didn’t happen either.  Nor did a playoff appearance happen for the Isles.  So this will be my year end grades for…

Hockey from the Blind Side, Observations from An Islander Weekend

It was, for me, an Islander weekend. As Page indicated in her post, the Islanders held a practice on Saturday for the New York Islanders Booster Club members, and then of course, there was a hockey game played today at the old barn. I had the good fortune to have been able to attend both events. Many years ago when the Isles were driving for 5, I had the honor…

Hockey from the Blind Side, Evaluating the Isles Through Half the Season, Part II

I will say up front that some might say that the sum of the parts don’t correlate…

Something’s Gotta Give

And no – we are not talking about the movie with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton.  Although the main character keeps suffering from supposed heart attacks and ends up in the hospital. Right now – both of these teams look like they can use a stay there… The Rangers are not doing any much better as the Isles have lately.  The Rangers are currently 10th in the conference, and have…

Game 31: New York Islanders @ San Jose Sharks 10:30pm EST

Despite a valiant effort last night in Anaheim, the New York Islanders could not help but find a new way to extend their winless streak to double digits. Last night in the last minute of the 2nd period locked in a 2-2 game playing spirited hockey the New York Islanders allowed 2 goals. One of them was a 3 on 1 while on the power play. Leading to the…

Isles Observations – 11/5 @ Washington

The Islanders started their 4 game road trip tonight in Washington.  After a solid opening period on the road, the wheels simply fell off.  The Capitals would go on to win the game 6-2.  Here’s some things that caught my eye. 1) Special Teams:  The penalty kill was quite awful.  At times, it seemed like the Isles really weren’t even working a system.  There was no structure at all.  I…
