Hockey from the Blind Side, It’s Time to Silence the Doubters

The New York Islanders have now tied their best of 7 game series with the Washington Capitals and have forced a game 7 in Washington on Monday evening. This, I firmly believe, is a shocker to some of the hockey media and so called “experts”. I have read in so many places and have heard the opinions of so many people who believed the “upstart” Islanders were going to be…

Gary’s Audio Blog – Good Teams Find Ways to Win… Thank Goodness

February 10, 2015

CLICK BELOW TO HEAR GARY’S PODCAST… Remember this phrase….. GOOD TEAMS FIND WAYS TO WIN GAMES This Islander team did just that.  First home game from a road trip – the play was SLOPPY.  There was not a lot of urgency, and players seemed to be lackluster. However, the fourth (first, sic) line was fabulous again. Colin McDonald has found a rebirth in the last two games. Will he stay…

Lee Gets Fine; Cizikas to IR; Visnovsky Returns

December 9, 2014

NY Islanders forward Anders Lee has been fined $2,286.29, maximum under the CBA, for elbowing St. Louis defenseman Carl Gunnarsson. — NHL Player Safety (@NHLPlayerSafety) December 9, 2014 #Isles put Casey Cizikas on IR. Seems a precursor to Visnovsky coming off IR after AM skate. — Arthur Staple (@StapeNewsday) December 9, 2014 Capuano: Halak in goal, Visnovsky in for Donovan, Conacher only forward scratch. #Isles — Arthur Staple (@StapeNewsday) December…

Audio – Isles beat Devils 3-1 Go to 17-7

November 29, 2014

What a game tonight.  The Devils gave everything they had tonight, but Jaro Halak was outstanding.  The defense defended a 5 on 3 to end the game, and were the difference as the Isles win 3-1. Halak won his 9th straight and the team went 5-1 on a 6 game in 9 day stretch. The team will get a well deserved day off before preparing for the Sens on Tuesday….

Would Any Isles Fan Have Expected This?

November 25, 2014

15-6… Best start in franchise history… Stellar offense… Best goaltending in the Pre-Groin pull Rico era… 2nd and 3rd year players making monster strides… With those types of statements you would normally be thinking Bruins, Hawks, Kings, Penguins… New York Islanders??? Yes!  Yes!  Yes! You are reading that right.  I guarantee, there are  a great number of people that drink the cool-aid, and would say they thought this would happen……

Time To Look In The Mirror

After a 6-2 record to start their season, the New York Islanders went up against the Winnipeg Jets at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum last night and were exposed once again for their lack of focus, and undisciplined play which cost them the game by losing to a score of 4-3. A young team that knew who were coming into town and playing in their building that was looking pretty…

Isles Fall in Pre-Season Home Clash

September 25, 2014

The Islanders had some bright spots last night, but unfortunately for them, they were not that bright, as they fell to the Hurricanes 4-2 last night at the NVMC. Three power play goals were scored against the home team, mostly due to some inefficiencies on the back line.  Jaro Halak played the entire game and made some strong saves, but as you would expect from a pre-season venture, there were…

Isles Ink de Haan & Cizikas To Contracts

July 15, 2014

From various reports: The New York Islanders have signed center Casey Cizikas to a two year $2 million dollar contract & defenseman Calvin de Haan to a three year $5.9 million contract. My take: Solid signings and if de Haan can stay healthy, as he should, this is just about as good as Snow can get as a GM other than the Andrew MacDonald, Travis Hamonic & John Tavares deals. All the…

Year in Review. Thoughts from behind the Stove

Well it really didn’t go as planned.  I expected to write at least one entry a week.  I mean its only writing. Well life got in the way and that didn’t happen.  I also expected to have a much more positive spin on things in Isles land. Well, that didn’t happen either.  Nor did a playoff appearance happen for the Isles.  So this will be my year end grades for…
