This could be the last photo of Tavares taken before he earns the ‘C’, as he is expected to, when Islanders announce a new team captain on Monday.  It’s a beauty of a pic via the Isles Instagram account.

Although it hasn’t been made officially official, Tavares captaincy that is,  Adam Proteau of The Hockey News shares his thoughts via Twitter. . .

@Proteautype – Islanders to name captain Sept. 9. Here are the three frontrunners: 1. John Tavares. 2. John Tavares. 3. John Tavares.

In other words, it’s a no brainer.

Brian Compton chimed in via the NHL’s website to share some JT quotes.  Definitely worth a read.  JT’s quotes are pretty vanilla through and through, but in many interviews, including this one, he always references the significance of the Islanders as a historic NHL franchise.  Bright kid.  Knows his stuff and will be a phenomenal captain.

Our thoughts:  He is the obvious choice, even on a team that isn’t lacking in leadership.  He’s been groomed for this moment his entire life.  Who knows, one day Islanders fans may hear, “John Tavares, would you please come get the Stanley Cup”.
