Islander potential: a better skating Scott Mayfield
I’m not keen on the Islanders drafting a defenseman in the first round of this years draft. If the other forwards are taken, then drafting Robertson is a safe, yet high value pick. I do not overlook the fact that he’s ranked 17th play in the ISS (International Scouting Service) and if he is indeed available at 23 and is drafted, then the Islanders will be the envy of the NHL for some time. Simply put: He has better speed than Scott Mayfield at this age and Robertson is not out of defensive position in a league known to score goals as of late. He can also bring the puck up, though that is not necessarily his forte. He’s got a veteran persona to him as he is very patient and waits for his opportunity to make his move. He has a decent shot like Mayfield, but like Scott, don’t expect Robertson to put up a lot of points. I believe a full two seasons more in juniors and two years at most in Bridgeport and the Isles could very well have a top 4 defenseman who is very coachable.
Check out Isles Talk tomorrow for the number 4 prospect on my wish list.
