This is one of those cases where if The Islanders did nothing all day and just drafted the best player available, Bobby Brink would be my pick. Like Tomasino, Brink has slowly moved up the draft board all season and I’m hoping the Isles can still land him at 23, but my gut is telling me he’ll be gone somewhere in the teens. He’s got a terrific shot, so good that it got him to the U-18 World Junior Championships this year where he scored 3 goals, 6 points in 5 games. He’s got soft hands, good vision, not afraid to use the body in the corners and can take a hit to make a play happen. Also like Tomasino in my number 3 wish list prospect, Brink doesn’t turn 18 until next month. Brink already has a good recipe for success while committing to the University of Denver this year and he’ll probably get some international time during the World Juniors. If Brink spends 3 years in College (at most) and another year in Bridgeport, I would be drooling if I could see Oliver Wahlstrom on the first right wing side and Brink on the second.
Coming up tomorrow on draft day, I’ll have the number 1 player on my wish list. Also, I along with the Drive 4 Five Islanders group along with members of the BOA will be at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum (NYBC Live) doing an on-premises Isles Talk Live Cast from 12:30-5pm covering the pre-draft festivities with all the news that comes out during the day, including trades and signings. Then at 6:30pm, I’ll be doing another Live Cast at RC Dugans Craft Beer and Wing House in East Meadow. Food will be provided during the day thanks to the Drive for Five, so come out and talk with me and the Islanders fans all day long as we get ready for next season.
