It has been a long time since I wrote on this page…. Just a lot going on in my life, and it took away from the other things that I like to do (including this).
It was a decent summer in Islander country. I am so glad that the goaltending situation was fixed. I really believe that Halak and Johnson are a great tandem, and moved up into the top third in the league in that category, without even playing a game. True, the defense that will be in front of them are not as good as the Blues and Bruins respectively, but the goaltending will make the defensemen better. So for that – you have to be a little hopeful.
Getting Grabovski and Kulemin will surely help. I believe that both of these gentlemen want a little bit of a reclamation to their respective careers, so getting this chance can only help.
What will be the makeup of the first line? Does the play of Brock Nelson get him a legitimate shot? Time will tell. How will Ryan Strome do in his first full season with the big club? I am looking forward to seeing that develop.
With this being the last season on the Isle, will this team take the necessary steps to move up in the top echelon of the league? They have the bodies, it is up to the coaching staff to get the best out of them.
As far as Isles Talk is concerned, there is going to be a change – AT THE TOP. I am going to continue to write and work on the site, but I am going to bring up Paul Kreischer to the top spot, and make him DA MAN! Paul has done a fantastic job on this site. He has really impressed me lately with his draft knowledge, his honest take on the Sound Tigers, and really wants tom bring his writing skills up. For that, he deserves this promotion (although Paul – there is no money involved, sorry…..)
Also – with the new format of SportsTalk 1240 on WGBB, I want to spend a little more time over there, and build up my ‘journalistic resume’. I want to write more on other topics like Baseball, and Soccer. That vehicle will give me the chance to do that.
John, Paige, and Sean will still be writers here, giving their insight and views on Islander Puck. And I will still give commentary here too.
When I started “The View From Section 317” so many years ago, I never knew what it would do for me; but it gave me a chance to feel like a sports writer. Starting EYES ON ISLES, and then ISLES TALK, has allowed me to get my feet real wet. It gave me the chance to work in the press box for the last few years, and for that, I am extremely grateful to the Islanders for allowing me the privilege of being in that role.
I continue this at WGBB as my credential. Hopefully, we get Paul the opportunity to get to work at he COLI for the last season there.
So – again – thanks EVERYONE for reading my work, and I hope that you stay tuned to ISLES TALK as we get ready for a new season.
