Draft Party Disappointment

draftTonight’s draft party was a major success.  The Islanders got the pick that they wanted Michael Dal Colle.

Also at the party, there were some players that came to sign some autographs for fans.

My experience with the autographs wasn’t so pleasant. While I was giving blood at the party Eric Boulton was present to sign autograph before people donated blood. Ryan Strome, Anders Lee and Calvin DeHann were up on the concourse signing autographs. That is not why I’m writing this blog.

The point of this blog is to get something off my chest. While I was walking around the party, I noticed that there was a section cut off for “VIP”.  I didn’t know that there would be a “VIP” section at a Draft Party.

After the Islanders pick Michael Dal Colle, Ryan Strome was to come signing some autographs and taking some pictures with some fans in the “VIP” section.  I wanted to see if I could try to get an autograph from him, but there was no way I could get to him.

They also had a stage in the “VIP” section, where Eric Boulton, Anders Lee and Ryan Strome were asked some question. The people outside of the “VIP” section couldn’t see or hear what was going on.

Knowing that there was a “VIP” section at a draft party disgusts me.  What they should have done is let the players walk around the party to sign some autographs and take some pictures.

  1. Just another sign that the islanders management have “checked out”. They have avoided contact with the fans for at least 10 years now. I am showing my age but back in the hey day of the late 70’s and early 80’s players like Nystrom , Gillies, Potvin, Hart, Bourne and Howatt were easily assessible at fan events. There was never a seperation for VIPs.
