And it is out of the way in the first month of the season.
So – welcome, Thomas Vanek. If you thought Buffalo – Toronto was a crazy game, wait until you feast your eyes on this…
War in Uniondale tonight.
With the Rangers finally playing a home game (and losing), they may not be a happy crew that is coming to the Coliseum tonight. The lowest scoring team in the NHL (15 goals in 10 games) are also giving up 3.5 goals a game. King Henrik has a little rust in his crown right now. Although the defense has played better of late, this is a team that you can score on right now. Coach Alain Vigneault was to bring his high flying scoring type offense that he had for years in Vancouver and instantly make his team competitive.
Only Brad Richards got the memo.
Rick Nash is still seeing stars. Ryan Callahan broke his thumb one game into his return. Carl Hagelin is returning? This team is a shadow of what everyone thought it would be.
But a Ranger – Islander game tends to make all of these points moot on both sides.
As for the Orange and Blue, yes, Matt Moulson started his Buffalo career in style. Two goals for the former Islander in his debut in WNY. Now – if Thomas Vanek does not do that, I can say without any certainty, that people are going to want to hang Garth Snow on a public square somewhere.
TAKE A CHILL PILL. It is ONE game.
Vanek has 70 games to feel the way a lot of these guys feel about Long Island, the team, the players, the fans, the vendors. It will happen. Once he starts to get loose and get his pucks from number 91 – all will be moving in the right direction.
The defense need to be on their best behavior tonight. You know that guys like Hamonic and MacDonald are up for these events. However, you need the Hickeys and the Donovans to keep their game steady tonight. Matt D has struggled the last few games, and he needs to bring the “A” effort out tonight. As long as he puts it to be a Sound Tiger/Wolfpack (Whale) game – he should be fine. Carkner has not been doing so well this season and the fans are not happy with his performance. He needs to step it up tonight.
Would assume that Boulton will get a nod tonight to bring the physicality and passion tonight. He only brings about 4 minutes a game on the ice, but his contributions have not been as bad as usual. Expect at least a fight tonight for sure.
Probably Nelson out tonight.
The barn will be rocking – Loudville will be – uh – LOUD! Looking forward to the matchup tonight.
Look for updates tonight and tomorrow morning about this great game. I usually only tweet during games that I am covering in the press box, but I will try tonight – @islessection317.
