If your an Islanders fan, unless you live under a rock, you are well aware that the team(s) crank up their pre-season schedule with split squad tilts against the Flames in Western Canada. The game is not on any of the MSG channels but the game in Calgary can be viewed by going here. Originally there was going to be a radio stream available too but that has since been ixnayed.
Here are the rosters for which player is going where . . .
Noticeable is the prospect depth at defense that each group boasts in tonight’s games. It will be interesting to see who might shine early (Ahem, Matt Donovan & Calvin de Haan.) as that is generally a solid indicator of who has been working hard during the off-season.
Throughout training camp, there has been some fuss made over the fact that Travis Hamonic and Andrew MacDonald have been been split up and paired off with ‘others’. Egad! What to do? The coaches have paired Brian Strait with Travis Hamonic, as they were together in the playoffs last year against the Penguins. Personally, I think Strait possesses a ton of upside and it is well worth at least exploring the idea to essentially ‘divide and conquer’ the original shutdown pair of A Mac and Hammer. Were they really that outstanding together in the first place? Dominik over at Lighthouse Hockey examines the topic in today’s write-up.
Lastly, it’s well worth a look over at Eyes on Isles as Rich does a neat job weaving some John Keats in with what it means to be a sports fan in general, and an Islanders fan.
