Ryan Pulock. Why in the Hockey Gods would I pick another defenseman after what Garth Snow did last year? Because in three years time, there may not be a better offensive defenseman in this organization than Pulock. A great player on a bad team and with some international experience, he falls right where the Islanders and quite a few other would love to take him. From what I’ve been told by fans of his junior team, the Brandon Wheat Kings, he’s the second best, if not, as good as Seth Jones in this draft for offensive defenseman. On a better team, he’s a top ten pick, maybe five. It would be the draft pick for the Islanders to land him. Imagine Griffin Reihnhart, Travis Hamonic, and Pulock on the same defense? Deadly.Name: Ryan Pulock
Weight: 211 Lbs
Age: 18 (19 in Oct)

Comparison: Bryan McCabe, Shea Weber
Totals for the Season: 61 games 14 goals 31 assists 45 points
So how many regret that Bryan McCabe for Felix Potvin trade a few years back in the 90’s? Well here’s Garth’s chance to make amends with a few Isles fans hearts. Question? Who on the Isles has a 101 MPH slap-shot? Well come Sunday they may have one. Pulock also has a fantastic one timer which makes him an terrifying shooter on the Powerplay. He has an excellent overall package that is steady and reliable. He has great puck skills that are consistent with an outstanding shot. Pulock has good vision and awareness and he creates the offensive chances. He can log a lot of important minutes for his team and he plays with a calming demeanor.
Defensively, Pulock has strong positioning so he keeps his opponent to the outside and is hardly beaten one on one. He’s able to cuts down the passing and shooting lanes when Pulock is in the defensive zone. Pulock can play a physical game and is willing to throw hits if an opponent tries to get by him along the boards. A year or two of bulking up wouldn’t hurt in that department either.
Folks, the Islanders are certainly loaded with prospects but if the Isles decide to pick at number 15, then from an organization need for the future, Pulock is a can’t miss. Come Sunday we’ll find out what Garth Snow will do at the draft, but just in case I’ll make one more draft rankings for everyone tomorrow night. Remember, If Snow trades up or down, the rankings can change. For now, Pulock is my choice for the 2013 draft. Enjoy.
