For those fans who want a franchise goalie, look no further than Zachary Fucale. I will be honest here folks, if this wasn’t such a deep draft, he would probably be higher. As it turns out, he may fall to the number 10 spot the day before the draft as I will update any of my prospects if I feel they’ve moved up or down. However, if the Isles trade down, I will not be surprised if Fucale became an Islander. He’s also on my list because by 2015-16 he’ll be able to start in Bridgeport which is one of my criteria for this draft. Let’s take a look at this winning goaltender.Name: Zachary Fuchale

Position: G

Height: 6’1″

Weight: 176 lbs

League: QMJHL

Age: 18

Stats: 2012-13  Games: 55 Wins: 45 Losses: 7  GA: 2.35  save %: .909

To reiterate his age, he just turned 18 three weeks ago! So he has been winning championships at the tender age of 17 this year. He’s a good skater with very good lateral movement and is always in a good position. He has hockey/goaltending wisdom beyond his years and he just flat out wins big games. He won Gold with team Canada at the under 18 team in the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. His Halifax Mooseheads team won the QMJHL crown, then went on to win the Memorial Cup (the Stanley Cup for juniors).

My opinion is still this: Is he worth drafting? You bet. The CHL-NHL agreement states that a player cannot go to the AHL until he’s 20 years of age before a season starts, so he will not join Bridgeport until the 14-15 season on a PTO or play on their team in 15-16 as a regular. He could be ready for NHL duty much sooner than that so I would look to see another team in desperate need for a goalie to pluck him.  Due to the deep draft, Fucale could be a lower first round or high second, it all depends on the other teams.
