Tavares Swiss Debut and Sound Tigers Miscellany

John Tavares got his Swiss career going yesterday for SC Bern.  Long story short, he was held off the scoresheet.  Game recap here.  Not sure if the translate feature works with the link that I included, but I’m sure your browser can handle it.  Those Bern uni’s are somethin’ huh?  Advertise much?  Sweet logo though with the bear and all.

Anyone else getting ‘scatter brain’ trying to track all the dispersed NHL’ers, Isles vets, and prospects?  Maybe we can file a grievance with the league.

More stuff after the jump.

The Sound Tigers finished their preseason schedule with a record of 1-1 after a 2-0 shutout loss on Friday night to the Monarchs of Manchester up in New Hampshire at St. A’s college.  Game transcript here courtesy of Michael Fornabaio at ConnPost.com.  Watching the first couple periods on the Isles website left me with a solid impression of Kevin Poulin as he was solid through two.  Did anyone else expect more from the international top line of Kabanov, Niederreiter, and Nelson?  It’s only preseason and the trio has only played together a short time, but I expected like. . . a million trillion goals from them.  Antsy I suppose.  Anyone who knows me knows I’m pretty fired up about Nino and Nelson.

Moving along.  A tired bunch of skaters will be back at Iceworks in Syosset on Saturday at noon for season subscribers special access practice.  I’m not quite sure what all that laddy-da entails but it’s always nice to see the prospects up close.

In Canadian juniors news, Ryan Strome notched an assist and a +1 rating as his Niagra IceDogs handily defeated the Saginaw Spirit on Friday night.  Recap here from Niagra’s website.  Strome is yet to have a ‘monster’ game for Niagra and is just outside the top 10 in scoring in the OHL after 6 games played, however his team is an impressive 5-1.  Dougie Hamilton is also on that squad.

Enjoy your Columbus Day weekend hockey fans.
