In 2004, this lockout was with a lot of fan fare. It was one of a lot of talk, a great deal of rhetoric from both the players side, as well as the NHL. It was outrage and extreme anger from the fans, as the number 4 sport in the US was closing its doors. There were many that thought that the unhappiness from all sides, would make the two groups come back to the table with a much different attitude, which would calm the sides down enough that there would be the possibility of hockey once again for that season.
Well – we know how that turned out, don’t we….
It is slowly beginning to look like we are going to have the same path now.
There are no scheduled talks to end this impasse, and frankly, nothing much is being said from anywhere. Just the fact that day by day, more players are announcing that they are going over to Europe to play. As of now, there are only two Islanders, Mark Streit and Lubomir Visnovsky that are playing, along with the other two, Nino Niederreiter and Travis Hamonic who are suiting up for Bridgeport.
We are hearing that John Tavares is looking at options, but nothing as of this date has been set in stone.
This weekend will begin camp for Bridgeport. I am hoping to make a trip up
there to see some hockey a little more up close. I miss the game very much. I was looking forward to listening to the two pre-season games that the team would have been playing in Canada this week. Next week, would have been the game in Brooklyn (which as of the writing of this page, has NOT been cancelled, but we know that will happen soon). But I need my fix, and the “Tigers” will do for now.
I would suggest that any serious fan of the team, should take the opportunity to make a trip to Bridgeport, and see the Sound Tigers in action. The building is nice, and the team should be fun to watch.
I feel bad, that we started this site, and there isn’t a lot of news to talk about. In fact, it really SUCKS! However, we will do our part, to give you what we can. In the next couple of weeks, we will talk about Bridgeport, and the AHL. For me, I will also talk about the English Elite Ice Hockey League, and my team, the Sheffield Steelers. But for my Islanders, all I can do, is hope that both sides, will let down their guard, and get it going to get a deal done.
Pray with me, won’t ya!
